Thank you, come again
It is safe to say that a large portion of our workdays in the month July went towards planning “College Admissions: an Afternoon with the Experts” workshop. Constant brainstorming teemed with numerous phone calls, emails and price inquiries is what made it all possible. But what is it that really kept us going? Well, Kyle had his 2-pound Sour Patch Kids bags, Awad kept a piece of the glitter and glamour of Michael Jackson in his heart, Charles and his monstrous application armada (made up of things like tweetdeck, hootsuite, ustream and tumblr) were a force to be reckoned with, Dolly honed her motherly skills, Lukiih had her brown jokes, Risa fed us and made sure our sugar levels were at peak, and I lived off the General Tso’s Chicken lunch special.
Along with spending $7.00 on a delicious meal, I believe the many days of planning for a 3 hour workshop were a great investment. But were these 3 hours really worth it for out attendees? Well lets see.
At the entrance to our workshop was a table welcoming our guests with free gift bags filled with various college preparatory material. Since we were committed to making our workshop as enjoyable as possible, these gifts were definitely a great addition. And as shown by this attendee’s facial expression, he was particularly excited about receiving a free gift bag. So overcome with joy, he could not even pick up a bag on his own; but thankfully Steven, one of our great volunteers, came to his rescue.

After taking a free gift bag, our guests then made their way into the main hall to listen to our group of expert panelists. After each panelist gave their 2 cents, we allowed our attendees to ask questions. As you can see, both our panelists and attendees were delighted to have such interaction.

Finally after our panel session, we opened up the center hall for our discussion groups. Attendees floated around from group to group speaking to college students representing their majors. We also had test preparation companies come, such as Kaplan and Princeton Review, as well as financial aid representatives from Wachovia Bank. Through that, attendees were able to learn more about prospective college majors and various methods of college preparation.

Well, in the end, it is safe to say that this workshop provided an enjoyably interactive and informational resource for our guests. Those many days spent slaving over a hot laptop planning this event were definitely fun but we at myCollegeSTAT particularly enjoyed participating in the actual workshop. We are extremely glad to have seen such a great turnout and look forward to doing this again.
