College Admissions: an Afternoon with the Experts will provide students and parents with unique insight and invaluable information on getting accepted. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from admissions officers, alumni interviewers, college counselors, financial aid representatives, and current college students from top universities.

College Admissions: an Afternoon with the Experts will take place from 2:00pm – 5:00pm on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Brooklyn Technical High School at 29 Fort Greene Place in Brooklyn, NY.

The event is FREE and open to everyone. All attendees will receive a free gift bag and Newsweek Magazine while supplies last.

myCollegeSTAT is offering a trial service as part of the Gumball Challenge, a week long competition challenging students to raise as much money as they can for social entrepreneurship with only $27 and 27 gumballs. From November 3rd to November 8th, we are offering to review your college applications and essays for a small fee. The cost is $15 per essay or application you want reviewed. All proceeds from the service go towards financing entrepreneurs in developing nations through Gumball Capital and kiva.org. A team of 10 Stanford students will review your essays/applications and give you feedback and suggestions. These are students who were in your same position and know what you are going through. If you are interested in the service, want to help people pull themselves out of poverty, and want some help on your college application, click on the links below and email me at cnaut@mycollegestat.com or cnaut@stanford.edu with the materials you want reviewed and what colleges they are for. You do not need to be a myCollegeSTAT user to use this service so send this to your friends if you think they will be interested. Hello myCollegeSTAT team, users, administrators, supporters, admirers, family, fans, lovers, etc. We decided to enter the blogging world to bulid stronger bonds with our community. And because we like to talk.

Last night we launched a renovated layout for cSTAT. No major changes, yet, but there are quite a few new and cool features and some user-related updates.

• CollegeBOX: We added a “CollegeBOX” on all the college pages to allow users to submit anonymous opinions about schools. I will shamelessly plug my school, NYU, as an example of the CollegeBOX in action. The anonymous opinions are available for all schools and it’s as simple as clicking “Write a Comment.” By the way, I’d like for everyone to take note of the spiffy fade-in text box, all thanks Awad!
• Edit Profile: There are a million and one changes and updates here. I hope I can cover them all. Overall, the “Edit” links now lead you to a whole new spiffy fade-in text box, once again, kudos to Awad. Onto more changes.
  • Interests: You can now share your interests on your profile, be it baseball, vintage cars, rock music, or collecting insects on Saturday nights to make mystery stew. We open the world to you.
  • Tests: The layout of the display of tests (founder under profile) has been updated. In my opinion, it is now cleaner, more user-friendly, and more navigable. However, this is a biased point of view. Feel free to disagree and leave us feedback. We love hearing from users and we love feedback.
• Monthly Sweepstakes: If you have not completed a full cSTAT profile yet, do so soon! Our monthly sweepstakes will be ending in about a week, so don’t miss your chance to win a free gift card.
